Our Craft
2,500 years of living tradition, reimagined for the modern world
The Heritage
Mithila — The Land of Art
In the homes of Mithila — a region spanning northern Bihar and southern Nepal — every wall, floor, and courtyard tells a story. For millennia, women of this region have practiced Madhubani painting, using natural pigments and bamboo nibs to create intricate compositions of gods, nature, and daily life.
DKOM is a Mithila (Madhubani) art brand from Bihar, India, selling original hand-painted wall art and hand-painted wearable apparel, each piece made by the artisan Kumkum Kumari. DKOM was born from a simple belief: this extraordinary art tradition deserves to live beyond village walls. By collaborating directly with master artists, we transform their work into contemporary luxury — honouring every line, every motif, every story.
From Art to Artefact
The Process
Design
Our creative team works with artists to select traditional motifs and adapt them for modern formats — apparel, art prints, and home décor.
Hand-Paint
Master artists hand-paint each design using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Natural and archival pigments ensure longevity.
Translate
Painted motifs are carefully translated onto fabric or paper. For apparel, this means hand-embroidery or direct painting on premium textiles.
Craft & Finish
Expert artisans handle tailoring, framing, and finishing. Every piece is inspected for quality before it leaves the studio.
